The inauguration ceremony was a posthumous act to honour Mr Ramón Amenós, who was the chairman of Borges International Group S.L. and Borges Agricultural & Industrial Edible Oils, S.A. until 14 June this year.
Members of the Board of Directors of Borges International Group, members of Mr Ramón Pont’s family and the mayoress of Tárrega, Alba Pijuan Vallverdú, attended the ceremony.
Despite the growing volume of raw oils from Eastern Europe, Borges Agricultural & Industrial Edible Oils (BAIEO) is still producing locally, reaffirming its commitment to social responsibility and value generation in the territory and guaranteeing the traceability of its seed oils.
With the inauguration of this plant, Borges Agricultural & Industrial Edible Oils has reached a hugely significant milestone in its master plan, which is designed to improve efficiency, competitiveness and sustainability with an investment of €23.1 million in the period between June 2018 and May 2022.
Most of the investment is in the construction of the new seed oil extraction plant and associated facilities, at a total cost of €10 million.
The new extraction machinery will increase output by up to 30% while reducing costs. It will also improve the performance of the extraction process, increasing the ratio of oil obtained in the seed oil extraction process, enhancing the security of the process and operator working conditions. This upgrade will also reduce the environmental impact of its operations by reducing volatile organic compound emissions (OPE) as well as steam, electricity and gas consumption, all necessary to oil extraction, improving the sustainability of its activities.
